The Good, the Bad and the Dead is the last playable chapter in Call of Juarez: Gunslinger.

Plot Summary[]

The year was 1910, about 6 months before the present time. An aged Silas Greaves learned that the surviving members of the Wild Bunch had returned to the United States from their exodus in South America. Hoping to find his last nemesis Roscoe "Bob" Bryant, Silas tracked the band down to a deserted town somewhere in Wind River Mountain Range, Wyoming, where the bandits were retrieving their old loots. Traversing the ghost town, Silas defeated bunches of goons, as well as "ghosts of his own past". Eventually, he confronted Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in the old cemetary. By the time, the two bandits were no longer friends, bickering over the ownership of wealth and a woman. In a Mexican Stand-off, Silas managed to kill them both.

Before Butch died, he revealed the whereabouts of Bob Bryant, who was believed hiding in Abilene under the alias of "Ben".

Historical Facts[]

Most historians believe Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were killed in Bolivia in their struggle against local government forces circa 1908-10. For more information, see their respective pages.

  • Although this chapter is blended heavily with outlandish imagination of Silas, especially the "ghost" part, the basic fact that he defeated the remaining of Wild Bunch and killed their leaders is most likely true, evidenced by the accurate information on the location and identity of Roscoe Bryant.
  • "Ghosts" normally appear in a transparent, smoke-like form. However, in concentration mode, their character's true look will reveal. This is most likely a development oversight.

Behind the scenes[]

  • The name of the chapter is clearly a pun on the 1966 Western classic The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
  • Etta, the girl that the two bandits competed for, was Sundance's wife in real life. This is also mentioned in Nuggets of Truth as a fact.
  • The Mexican Standoff plot is a homage to the epiloge of Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, where Ray and Thomas McCall were pitted against each other for gold and a woman, and their third brother William attempted to stop them.
